Description:

This delicious sweet treat largely consists of sugar or honey, fruit, coconut, sweet syrup and dried nuts. The powdered sugar cubes are a typical delicacy often eaten in Turkey, Cyprus and the Balkan Islands. It has a soft jelly-like consistency and is served in cubes covered with powdered sugar.

 

Ingredients and allergens: glucose syrup, sugar, water, invert sugar syrup, beef gelatin, dextrose, acids: lactic acid and tartaric acid, flavorings, colours E101, E120, E141, E161b and E162. May contain traces of milk, egg, soy and sulphite.

 

Turkish delight has been around since the 15th century and several stories have been circulating about its origins. One of the stories is that there was a sultan, in Turkey, who had a very large harem. The harem's women were always arguing, and the Sultan was fed up. He came up with a plan that his pastry chef at court should make a sweet treat so delicious that the women of his harem would no longer like their arguments and there would be peace in the palace. The Sultan's plan paid off, the women of the harem stuffed themselves with the delicious, sweet delicacy, and there was no more bickering.
