Description:

Babeluttes, typical Belgian sweets made from candy syrup, caramel, butter and a pinch of salt. The butter sweets (chatterers), formerly made by the fisherwomen, were a traditional sweet on the Belgian coast. A woman from Heist (Mother Babelutte, 1841-1912) commercialized the candy and sold it to the elite French-speaking bathers. The name "babbelaars" was Frenchified to "babelutte", and the woman was then called la mère Babelutte. High-quality confectionery, a real delicacy of yesteryear!
